My company is considering launching an anti-idling campaign that uses in-vehicle prompts and I would appreciate input from anyone who has done something similiar. The prompts we're contemplating include a rear-view mirror hanger (in the style of a parks pass) that lists anti-idling tips, an air freshner that does the same, or a transparent tip sticker to be placed above the oil-change sticker. Does anyone have experience with this sort of campaign? We would like to know how it was received by the public (i.e. if they were interested in displaying such materials in their cars) and what worked and didn't work about the it. Many thanks.

We've distributed key tags and ice scrapers. The key tags were shaped like a boot with the tag line, "Kick the Habit". They were very popular.

Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency developed the Idle-Free Zone CBSM materials as a result of initial research in Mississauga. Since then there are a number of other mechanisms that have been used including key tags and rear window hangers. I think the most effective and most used has been the window decal. You can see some of the research done at: http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/communities-government/idling.cfm under resources/reports and research. Downloadable versions of the materials created are also available on the site.

Gina,
We are trying to start the same type of program. We are looking at a hanging tag from the rear view mirror with a polar bear on one side and idling information on the opposite. I would appreciate any information gathered.
Thank you.
