I am currently working with a community of 30 families (11 are participating) to reduce litter and increase recycling. However, they are in a rural and underdeveloped area in the highlands of Guatemala. The local government is not interested in any form of waste management or treatment, and the infrastructure is obviously lacking. We do have a recycling center nearby, but I am finding that many of the traditional barriers and benefits are not feasable here. I wonder if anyone has experience or information on cbsm in developing countires that might be useful.

Hi Morgan. I would be interested in any insights you might get from others. I have a long-term project I'd love to develop that will involve a challenge similar to yours (but in Costa Rica). If you'd like to correspond on this email email, feel free to email me at [email protected]
I can tap two folks who might have some insights--one of them is an expert in rural community development issues; the other is an expert in solid waste reduction and recycling, though he has no direct experience assisting in such a project. But I've discussed a little bit about my vision for this project, and I think he'd have some good strategies.
Kudos to you for your efforts in Guatemala!
