Through our CoP we would like to explore the applicability of System Thinking to understanding and developing some strategy or approaches for community action for the control of invasive weeds. We have found the language a bit difficult. Has anyone applied System Thinking and perhaps simplified the language? Would appreciate any comments and views...

g'day
I'm using systems approaches in a variety of settings, all at a pretty neophyte stage. However a couple here in Canberra who are teaching this have these papers to refer to:
Newell, B. and K. Proust (2012) "Introduction to Collaborative Conceptual Modelling." Working Paper, ANU Open Access Research, https://digitalcollections.anu.edu.au/handle.net/1885/938, and
Proust, K., B. Newell, H. Brown, A. Capon, C. Browne, A. Burton, J. Dixon, L. Mu and M. Zarafu (2012). "Human health and climate change: leverage points for adaptation in urban environments." International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health 9(6): 2134-2158.
which might give you some leads.

Thank you, I found the material very useful and help our CoP in coming to grips with system thinking. We have not have the first iteration of a system map, which I believe needs further refinement.

Hi Barney,
I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I gave a presentation entitled "Compassionate Systemsbehaviour change and invasive species" at the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia's forum in January 2013.
You can listen to the slidecast at http://www.smallanddeliciouslife.com/compassionate-systems-behaviour-change-and-invasive-species-slide-cast/
Best,
Ruben.
