Hi everyone,
I've come across a provocative article by the Walrus magazine about how recycling behaviours in Canada are not sufficient to reduce waste. There are structural problems that need to be addressed as well, such as a lack of enforceable legislation and no concrete plans of action by the government. These lessons could be transferable to other jurisdictions around the world as well. Check out the article here.
Great article. It talked about recycling a plastic lined coffee cup twice. I believe it's because people would've other put it in paper or plastic bin and likely it doesn't belong in either because recycling facilities aren't designed to take this complex item. Unfortunately many items are complex and not easily recyclable. They don't get recycle d twice as they don't get recycled at all but end up in landfills once they get sorted out of the bin and discarded. The consumers are really unaware of how ineffective thecwhole recycling system is
