Hi folks,
I have some folks here who are interested in finding out about different certificate, Masters, or PhD programs that are in areas like sustainability, green planning, etc. If anyone knows of academic programs or certifications, please let me know. They would prefer to be in the U.S., but am open to hearing about international options.

I am currently taking classes through the Harvard distance learning program that will eventually lead to a Masters in Environmental Management with a concentration in sustainability. All but one of the classes needed for a masters degree can be completed online, so in addition to the students who attend in person the classes often include students from all over the world participating over the internet. Harvard also offers an environmental management graduate certificate program that can be completed entirely online. The class sessions are video recorded each week and can be viewed online by registered students. Information can be found at: http://www.extension.harvard.edu/envr/default.jsp. Duke also has a great program that can be completed online, http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/del/del-mem/.

Mickey,
Harvard University Extension School has a Certificate in Environmental Management that can be earned online. They also offer a Masters in Liberal Arts (ALM) in Enviro Mgmt, but you have to spend a bit of time on campus in Cambridge to get the Masters. I am in the ALM program and have found it to be terrific. They have their own professors, but also bring in guest lecturers for many of the classes from the other Harvard Schools (Kennedy School, School of Public Health) and government officials. Their website is http://www.extension.harvard.edu/envr/
Best of luck,

I just completed an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio School of Management in San Francisco. It's an excellent program, with staff who are very experienced and active in their field, a cohort based class grouping, full or part time options, and it's largely online, with a monthly 4 day in person session, allowing people from all over the country to attend. There's even one student who comes from Paris! I've finished this with a wide ranging knowledge of sustainable business, and business in general, and much more confidence/ competence then when I began. Definitely recommended. www.presidiomba.org

Hi Mickey,
I went to a fabulous program in Sweden called "Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability". It was mainly taught by Karl Henrik Robert, the founder of The Natural Step Framework. They also gathered an amazing array of international professors. The program was innovative, progressive, life changing and very educational. You can learn more here: http://www.bth.se/tmslm You can also look at my blog from my thesis to get an idea of how we applied our learning: http://www.partnerships4SSD.blogspot.com I am open to answering any questions you may have. Cheers, Miriam P.S. These are other programs to check out too: Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) which offers an MBA in Sustainable Business http://www.bgiedu.org/ Presidio School of Management which offers an MBA in Sustainable Management http://www.presidiomba.org/ The GreenMBA which offers an MBA in Sustainable Enterprise http://newcollege.edu/mba/ http://www.greenmba.com/

I would recommend an MSc course in the UK at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales if the building and energy side of things are of interest. The course is titled MSc Architecture: Advanced environmental and energy studies. http://www.cat.org.uk/msc/home/index.tmpl cheers
