I am trying to gather information on international (non U.S.) government agencies and NGOs that work with sustainability in any capacity (yes, broadly described). My goal is to offer college-level students in the U.S. a sense of what is being done elsewhere. I'm particularly interested in stories that might lend themselves to social media, such as Youtube.

We have so many NGO groups in New Zealand, would not know where to start. Examples - Several on Facebook and for our city of Lower Hutt (population just over 100,000): Common Unity Project, Eco-Fashion Exposed, Transition Towns.
Websites: Earthlink serves the Hutt Valley http://www.earthlink.org.nz/.
Wellington City: Sustainability Trust on Facebook
Porirua City: Trash Palace (probably both Facebook and web)
Nationally: NZ Forest & Bird, Enviroschools (www.enviroschools.org.nz)
Just a very brief overview.

Thanks! This helps! Anything folks share extends what I can imagine---and hopefully, when compiled, what others can as well.

Also, check in with Rhys Taylor, National Coordination contractor, Sustainable Living Education Trust. He is based on the South Island near Christchurch. Rhys Taylor .
Just remembered, in addition to Transition Towns we have Transition Churches - sort of an off shoot. All very interesting. As I said, there are heaps of NGOs and people trying to run small enterprises following principles of ecological and social sustainability and fair trade.

I could go on, but hopefully that's a good start.

In Australia we have natural resource management groups (some NGOs and some statutory boards etc) that work across the country to promote sustainability in everything from farming to home energy efficiency to school recycling. It just depends on the groups and the interests of members. A list of Queensland NRM groups can be found here: http://www.qmdc.org.au/links.html. For casestudies of what the various groups do, there's a 2012 booklet available online - http://www.territorynrm.org.au/communications/story-theres-lot-happening-our-backyard.
Additionally, the Landcare movement started in Australia. Landcare Australia can be found here: http://www.landcareonline.com.au/. There are also state Landcare organisations, for example - http://landcare.org.au/.

THANKS for doing this. Give yourself a treat and read "Grandmother Power: a global phenomenon" by Paola Gianturco (2012, powerHouse Books, Brooklyn, NY). Her other books also have wonderful examples of the kind of work you are seeking.
