Proper Disposal of Fishing Gear

I've looked farther back on the CBSM forums and found that there was a conversation thread about this back in 2011, called "Angling Litter". A few people provided some helpful resources. I've attached the screenshot below so you can find it. Also, I'm providing you a link to an Open Access academic article called, "Catalyzing sustainable fisheries management through behavior change interventions". This gives some information on a social marketing campaign that successfully made use of social norms. You might also find this useful.

Hi Nadia,
While I'm not sure of a specific social marketing effort around this topic, I know some folks here on Maui have been addressing the issue by installing receptacles at heavily-used fishing sites to collect and recycle monofilament line. I have no idea if it was set up based on any audience research, but perhaps you could connect with the coordinators to see if they have any evaluation data or "lessons learned" they could share that could be useful to your efforts. It seems like a good way to reduce an "inconvenience" barrier, if it turns out that's a factor, and if the fishermen indicate they're willing to use it.
