Hi everyone, I have a question about games. I know hat zoos, aquariums, nature centers, etc. will often use games to teach about conservation, ecology, wildlife etc. What I'm wondering is if we have a sense of how many games have been created that specifically use CBSM strategies embedded in them for messaging purposes? For example this past summer we created a game that used at the Queens Zoo in Queens, NY that was a true-false game, cleverly called "Be-leaf it or Not". Each true/false statement was designed to either uplift a benefit of planting native plants or to dispel a barrier to planting native plants. Has anyone else done something like this? Thanks for letting me know, it may be worth a peer-review publication?

Hi Shuli, I have used gamification in the context of teaching CBSM concepts, but not for behavior change programming. I wonder too if anyone else has done this? What a great idea for a peer review publication. If you're interested in the theory behind this, check out this article where researchers test the effectiveness of an online game to encourage reductions in household energy usage. There might be a paywall on this article. If there is, just let me know and I'll reach out to one of the authors who might be willing to share the study. p.s. I love the name of the true-false game!
This is an incredible sounding game, and would be relevant to our work promoting the planting of natives, and discouraging invasive species around local waterways! Would you mind sharing some of the questions/ answers you used?
Thanks so much Julie, this article also showed up when I searched.
You're welcome!
Hi Anya, the True/False statements we used were based on our findings from a barriers and benefits analysis that we did we with people who live locally in New York. Sharing what we used in the attached file, but I'd be remiss to not recommend finding out the barriers and benefits of planting native plants for folks in and around Eugene.
